ADR for Divorce or other Family MattersADR can be used not only in divorces, but also in disputes between parents and children. The State of Maine requires that parties in a divorce go through mediation prior to a hearing. However, in many cases going through mediation prior to filing the divorce action can resolve many, if not all, of the outstanding issues. If fully successful, a pre-filing mediation can even turn a contested divorce requiring that both parties retain attorneys into an uncontested divorce filed by the parties. There are times as well when parents and children simply are unable to communicate. Sometimes, taking the entire family in for a session with a family mediator can help resolve some of the long-standing issues within the family, as well as teaching the family some basic rules of communication to avoid similar problems in the future. | Upcoming events
