Please join the Maine Association of Mediators (MAM) for the FED (Forcible Entry & Detainer) Mediation Training 

We welcome all mediators who are interested in learning more about this field and who are interested in mediating evictions and/or joining the CADRES FED roster. This session will satisfy the first and second part of the requirement of training or background in Maine Forcible Entry & Detainer law to provide eligibility to apply for the CADRES FED Roster. 

Mediators already on the CADRES FED Roster wishing to brush-up on their skills or learn about new post-COVID developments in this area of the law are also welcome. 

Presenters will include Erica Veazey, Matthew P. Mastrogiacomo, Esq. and Karen Tucker Knox, Mediator, FED Roster. 

Zoom link will be sent a few days prior to the training.

Presenters for Part I:

Matthew P. Mastrogiacomo, Esq- Attorney Mastrogiacomo founded The Mastrogiacomo Law Office, P.A. in June 2013. As a litigator, he  concentrates his practice in landlord/tenant law, civil and criminal litigation, healthcare law, divorce, family law, adoption, and personal injury. Prior to opening The Mastrogiacomo Law Office, Mr.   Mastrogiacomo practiced for nearly 12 years and was a shareholder in a medium sized Lewiston law firm. Prior to that, he worked in the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office as an Assistant District Attorney intern. He also worked as a summer intern for the Maine Supreme Judicial Court Sentencing Project. Mr. Mastrogiacomo is heavily involved in the Androscoggin County Community and has served on several non-profit and community boards including the Androscoggin County Headstart, City of Lewiston Planning Board, United Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross, Auburn-Lewiston Rotary Club and is the former President of the Androscoggin County Bar Association. He is a current board member at Sandcastle Clinical and Educational Services. He is also the former Public Administrator for Androscoggin County and is a frequent lecturer on landlord-tenant law. Mr. Mastrogiacomo is an avid fisherman and boater and lives in Poland, with his wife, Carrie and daughter, Mia.

Karen Tucker Knox, Mediator, FED Roster- Karen is a Mainer who graduated from the University of Maine at Orono and received a Training and Development Masters from Lesley University (2000) in Boston. Karen’s Mediation experiences started in 1995 in Portland. Karen began working at the Community Mediation Center in 2000, where she coordinated the Restorative Justice Program and Community Mediations until 2005. She then was hired as a mediator by Youth Alternatives (now Opportunity Alliance) Mediation program, where she also took on the inaugural position as YA’s Volunteer Coordinator, creating and managing the program until 2007. Karen then began mediating in the courts for Small Claims and continued to work in restorative justice in addition to her work in Public Health with Healthy Communities of the Capital area in Kennebec County. Karen is now “retired” and continues her mediation work as a Court Alternative Dispute Resolution Services (CADRES) mediator on the Small Claims and FED rosters. Karen is a newlywed (2021) and lives in Hallowell with her husband, Tom, and two cats. She enjoys being an active volunteer on several committees and enjoys walking the hills and dales of Hallowell.

Our presenter for Part II is Erica Veazey.

Erica Veazey- An attorney in the Bangor office of Pine Tree Legal Assistance, Erica represents clients in housing, public benefits, and consumer matters. In addition, she helps to coordinate Pine Tree’s project with the Maine State Housing Authority and the Emergency Rental Assistance Program. Erica has been with Pine Tree Legal Assistance for 15 years and has extensive experience representing tenants in eviction proceedings.


The Facilitators will be Lucy Wess and Travis Humphrey.
