The Kids First Institute for Advanced Professional Learning (KFI) invites you to the second of our 2026 webinar series,The Court Says Go, but the Kids say NO! Multidisciplinary Approaches to Resist/Refuse Dynamics.

The second live webinar, "The Push and Pull Between Parental Alienation and Valid Estrangement", will provide an overview of the current research and legal approach to cases where children refuse or resist court-ordered contact time with a parent. 

When a child refuses contact with a parent, professionals are tasked with the difficult job of understanding the underlying causes of this parent-child contact problem before identifying interventions. This webinar will explore howto identify the myriad of factors causing a child to refuse or resist contact with a parent.

MAM Family Law Training (May 28, 2026)

Family Law Mediation Training

The Maine Association of Mediators (MAM) presents a three-day Family Law Mediation training designed for mediators, attorneys, counselors, and other helping professionals who want to apply for the CADRES Family Matters roster or who encounter family law issues in their daily work.

*There will also be an estimated 3.25 hours of reading and at-home exercises

Family Law Mediation training provides 16 hours of family law instruction. The training covers the three major areas of divorce and family law cases: children, property, and support. Topics include parental rights and responsibilities, marital property, child support, spousal support, post-judgment actions, and other family law issues. During the training, participants will be introduced to relevant statutes, case law, court forms, case studies, and mediation agreements. Participants will also be calculating child support obligations using the Maine Child Support Guidelines and statutes for a variety of scenarios.

Approved by the Maine Board of Overseers of the Bar

11.75 CLE hours plus 1 Ethics hour

and 16 CADRES hours.

Instructors:

Pamela Waite, Esq.

A graduate of Smith College and the University of Maine School of Law, Pam represented the State of Maine as an Assistant Attorney General primarily in employment and tax matters for over 30 years. A skilled negotiator, she trained to become a mediator and now mediates privately; serves on the court rosters for family matters and foreclosure cases; and is also on the roster as a mediator for the Maine Human Rights Commission and the Maine Department of Education. Pam believes strongly in party self-determination and the importance of trying to resolve disputes by agreement as an alternative to engaging in lengthy and expensive litigation.

Lucy Wess, Esq.

Lucy is a professional mediator, educator, and trainer who is now the owner of Mindful Mediation, LLC in Frankfort, ME. She is the Director of the Maine Agricultural Mediation Program (MAMP) through the University of Maine Cooperative Extension. Lucy has extensive experience "in the seat" in a variety of private mediation settings as well as CADRES family matters mediation in the Maine District Courts. Lucy has worked alongside students, staff, and administrators in various roles in higher education, including teaching History and Culture at SIAS International University in the People's Republic of China.

$450.00 for Non-MAM Members

$400.00 for MAM Members

$250.00 Refresher Fee
